I've always complained about never having seen a 681. Same for the 581 until this moment. Absolutely lovely revolver!

The 581and 681 are among my favorite revolvers. Most of mine guns are pre-1957, but I think these two models are a couple of the prettiest guns to come out of the factory. I'm a big fan of fixed sight service guns. Both of these are early production. The 581 has a "AAA" serial number prefix.

I'm with you on being a fan of fixed sight service guns. My 581 has a AEN prefix and the 681 as an AJU prefix. To date I have 1 pre model 10 snub, 1 Nickle model 10 4", 2 model 13 3", 4 model 65 3", 1 model 58, 1 model 520, and several J frames. Models 36, 37, and 60.

I acquired one YESTERDAY! I had never seen one locally. Another good GB experience for me.
It serials to '83. Fits right in between my 58 no dash and my 13-2. Blued & fixed sights: They just look right. Everything you need and nothing you don't.
I'll let you know how it shoots once the glacier recedes from the range.

I don’t usually care for the full lug barrel. But it just looks right on the 581. I have only seen a couple in person over the years, and a few more 681’s which seem to be more common. The 581 /681 came out and just the wrong time, as most police agencies were moving to autos, and most civilians showed a preference for the adjustable sights.

A 581 has been on my wish list for many years. In all that time I've only seen two for sale. One was rough as a cob and both where seriously over priced.
Maybe someday I'll get lucky.
