I'm looking to add a Model 586 to my collection (currently have a 3" 686 Plus and a 640 Pro Series). I'd like a 2 1/2 or 3in. Not a safe queen; one to carry and take to the range. What can I expect to pay. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

These are much less common than the 686s of the same barrel lengths, especially the 3". I'd guess at least high three figures for a 2.5" and more for a 3", if you can find one.

586 in 2 1/2" or the even rarer 3"? Big $$$...they don't show up often. There were some of each made in the mid 90's but not much. I was lucky enough to come across a 3" a while back and had it lettered...one of 108 in the run it came from. There was at least one other run but I would guess the total production at less than 400. There are probably more 2 1/2" but not a lot of those either!

I saw a 2 1/2" used and no box on GB lately that was nice but a shooter...the seller wanted too much and it didn't sell, seems like he wanted $1200 or so.

On the other hand you can find the 586 3" PC most of the time. It is a matte finish lock gun, very nice but at least $1K or more.

Good luck in your search and post if you come up with something.

M586, 2-1/2" barrel

Scarce as hen's teeth, my search took 14 months on 4 auction sites. In three weeks I found a M586 2.5" barrel, M629 6" unfluted cylinder, M29-2 4" barrel unfired with presentation case. I owed my wife big time. The M586 was "Buy Now for $750" with box, docs, and had been fired 6 times (all cylinders were dirty with barely visible turn "mark").

By comparison, there are lots of M686 with 2-1/2" barrel available.

After my spending spree she eventually received nickel M19s with 2.5" and 6" barrels to go with here father's inherited 4". Shooting wives are wonderful people .
