I ran across a pristine looking Model 59 and was wondering if replacement parts are in demand or no longer manufactured by S&W? Are there aftermarket parts from companies like Wolff available for this model?

Thanks

I should add I was considering adding one to my collection.

With that said, I'm a little surprised with all the members on this site and their experience with 1st - 3rd generation pistols that not one member can comment and tell me if parts are still being made or available (either by S&W or aftermarket) for the 59. :(

Thanks

I don't believe S&W supports 3rd Gen pistols anymore, so they won't have any parts for a 59. All I can suggest is that you try Numrich, or Jack First for parts. Failing that if you can't find parts post a WTB ad here. Model 59's are pretty robust pistols. I wouldn't let the availability of parts impede my decision to buy one. I own 2 2nd Gen's (645, 659) and a Model 52 and have never required any replacement parts. All were bought new and shot extensively.

re: CS45Fan

Smith & wesson does not manufacture or support parts from the older 1-3 gen pistols.. However there is a pretty wide variety available from various replacement vendors that can be ordered online.. Just depending on what parts are needed.. from my experience with owning 4 smith semi autos,4506,5906,915 and 910, I have never had to replace a single part on any one pistol after running 1000's++ through each model. Even with the model 910 being the cheaper budget model built with several plastic parts in the internals. They have all functioned flawlessly and are very very well built and dependable pistols.. I woud highly recommend you pick that model 59 up, you wont be dissappointed! If ever parts do need replacing they will more than likely be very minor ones such as the guide rod spring or mag release etc.. And most common basic parts are relatively cheap, probably pay just as much or more on shipping than the actual parts them selves. Hope this helps you out on your decision!

Thank you all for your opinions and information. I may just make that purchase. :D

If it helps any, I bought one last year for a great price, and have really enjoyed shooting it. It's a surprisingly accurate pistol, and with fixed sights, it gives the 5906 a run for the money. I've shot it alot more than I expected, as I picked it up "just because."

The Model 59 was the first 9mm semi auto I ever shot. Fast forward to two years ago. Friend of mine had a 59 which had been acquired new by his grandfather and carried it while a detective for the Houston Police Dept. Couldn't pass it up. Did not feel right that he just wanted to give it to me so I traded even for a 4" SS S&W that I had in stock. Never looked back. Great gun. Still trying to teach it how to talk.

If you shoot reloads in it what powder and bullets do you use. i want to shoot 125 gr round nose GA ARMS buttles in mine what powder would be the best for not leading the barrel. thanks HORNET

Barrel Leading

Barrel Leading is a function of the velocity and the alloy composition of the lead bullet being shot. The velocity can be a function of the powder used but it more of the amount of the powder used. Softer alloys will tend to "smear" in the barrel so harder alloys are used.

Brownell's doesn't track parts specifically for the 59 like they do other Smiths, but the 59 does use a lot of parts that they do carry. I cross-referenced the model 59 parts list with everything Brownell's has to make the following list of parts carried by Brownell's:
