Hi all, went to the range today and thought I would shoot my Models 39-2 and 59, the 39-2 performed well. The problem was the 59, got done shooting a full mag and the safety lever fell off, broken in two pieces. anyone else ever see this happen?? I'm hoping I can get a replacement safety from Numrich. I picked the 59 up about 2 years ago and I'm just now getting around to shooting it. Also the serial number ( A 364XXX) is from 1976-1977

I have NEVER seen that happen and never heard of it either.

Sorry that I can't help however we have some regulars that know these parts very well that should be along shortly.

I don't think it was any to hot, winchester white box 124gr. fmj. Just glad it was at the range because the safety must have clicked to on so the gun is useless until fixed, when I try to cock it the hammer drops like it is on safe.

Try Midway . I picked up a lever , the part that is attached to your part that broke , not long ago . I know they carry them , just not sure of one for the 59 family . Mine was for a 669 .

jsbethel, thank you for the hot link, I tried looking at numrich and found a nickle plated safety, while my 59 is nickle finish the safety and slide release are blued, I just placed an order for the one in your link.

I had something similar happen to a Model 39 (nothing) a while ago. It was issued to me in the IL state police academy in 1968, and I bought it back in 1980 when ISP went to the 439. The safety/decocker is a two piece (friction fit?) and the lever came loose from the internal part. It didn't break, it just came loose.

PJO1425, I know what you mean, if you look at a blued safety or slide release you can see a slight difference in color, both are two piece assemblies, the manual safety on my model 59 was a complete failure, it almost looked like metal fatigue and it just broke, sometimes you can tell a piece has been broke for a while but this looked like it happened al at once. I don't know. This 59 is just a range/fun/plinking gun so it's not a big deal just kind of disappointing.
