I recently purchased a 5906 that was sold to me as a police trade in from CDNN. My question is there any way to track it back to a certain police agency? I am curious as to where it came from.

If it's worth $50 to you, S&W will provide the history of the gun.
No guarantee that it was sold directly to a PD by S&W. It may have been sent to an distributer who then sold it.

Check the label on the box that it came in. Sometimes they list the department that traded the gun. Or call CDNN and try to find a savvy sales person who might know something about the origin of their LE trades.

I called S&W about my 5946 and they told me it was sold to Cincinnati Police and gave me the date. Give them a call.
