Model 60-14 Issue

I just purchased a pre-owned S&W model 60, and it has a problem that I have been trying to figure out. There is one chamber that, when indexed, and after pulling the trigger, will lock the trigger to the rear.

I have removed the cylinder and yoke, cleaned under the extractor, removed the sideplate & cleaned everything in there, but the problem still exists. While cycling the action by hand, it feels as if the cylinder or action is binding at this spot. The only thing I can think of is that the hand is binding on the ratchet, but why only in one spot?

Anything else I should check? Thanks ahead for any suggestions.

I believe you have a hand binding on the ratchet on that one chamber. I had this happen on a Model 49 back in the 80s. I called S&W and they suggested dry firing it a few hundred times. Sure enough, the problem went away. If this does not work, then send it in for correction, and they will make it right in short order.

I had a revolver that acted that way and upon examination, the ratchet was damaged. Apparently, the heat treatment was not correct. That is when the British company owned S&W and even tho' the gun was nearly new I had to pay for the repair. At the same time, I had another S&W revolver that had the hammer pivot pin break. Even tho' that should also have been a warranty job I again had to pay.

S&W's warranty wasn't worth spit those miserable years and neither was their quality control.
