Good Evening,
Was wondering if the newer model 60-357 mag
will fit in the same holsters as my 60 no dash 38?
I hope this is not to stupid of a question as I may
be picking up a new one.
Thanks,
Charlie

I think the .357 cylinder is a smidgen longer than the .38.

Not likely enough to matter if the holster is leather or fabric.
Might matter if the holster is kydex.

My nephew has the .38 now, or I'd measure.

Galco lists some of their J-frame holsters as different models for the .357 vs. .38.

Here's a pic that shows the difference between the .357 and the .38 SPL and the I-frame .38 S&W

I'm guessing unless it is loose-fitting the newer model 60s will not fit into an older model's holster - frame is larger, 2 1/8 (with underlug) vs. 1 7/8" barrel. A newer adjustable sight model 60 will definitely not fit.

Hi Charlie, it's NOT a stupid question. The previous posters have covered this topic very well. Depends on the gun, the construction of the holster, the climate... Gunshops are full of holsters that have literally dried out from being on the sales floor for many months. They look pretty, but are generally useless. I have an old Bianchi IWB suede clip job that will hold a Model 60 .357 with its 2.125" bbl, yet a Model 360 also in .357 with a 1/4" shorter bbl will not fit because the top strap seems to be thicker/higher. Nicely holds a larger Detective Special, though. Go figure.

Jim Mernickle in northern Nevada makes absolutely great belt holsters to order. Google him for his #. His J-frame belt scabbard securely holds ALL snub Js. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info.
I am picking it up this morning.
I like the Simply Rugged holsters
so I will email them and have one
made for it.

Maybe, if you have a loose fit holster like a Hunter. But if boned it to for fit, no. I have a 1980 M-60 & 36 and newer 638 & 649. the latter two will NOT fit the older Fobus holsters which is why they redesigned them. Cylinder is too long and 649 has a lug. Also won't fit my old Don Hume or Bianchi leather that are formed to the cylinder sizes. Of course, all the new holsters fit them all.
