You call that plain jane?!...I call that WOW!......Ben

I happen to like the Hogue grips with the stirrup. But Hogue makes all kinds of grips. You should not rule them out when making your decision. They are less expensive than many pictured above. Good luck with your search.

The Hogue rubber grips and the Spegel and Harlow wood grips of the same general shape put some grace and elegance to combat grips, as do the Thai version I like. OTOH, the factory combat grips are well named because they fight the shooter's attempts to get a good grip and assault the viewer's eyes with their appearance. I'm not opinionated am I? ;)

Green Frog.....what is the brand name of the Thai grips you speak of? Are they on ebay?

Here's a set of factory combats as compared to factory bananas for the RB J frame.

Zoned, I'm sorry, but it's been 5 or 6 years since I got them, and the names and specs change frequently anyway. I have to think there are a couple of talented guys with sharp chisels and a lot of skill making all of them. ;)
Here's a picture I've posted several times before showing the profile and the deep cutaway for use with a speed loader. It's appropriately displayed in its coffin case.

Lonesta57, I had both of those types of factory grips 30 years ago when I first started carrying Chiefs, and I just didn't "feel the love". They weren't right for me…YMMV.

Banana's

Like the Frog Man, I too had the Banana grips on both of the guns pictured above. However, when I brought the gun up to fire, I almost always needed to adjust my sight picture. The Harlow grips come up every time with a proper sight picture. It cannot be seen in the pics above but those two sets of grips were made to my specs. The 640 is DAO therefore the trigger is always forward in the trigger guard but the 60 is shot many times as SA which places the trigger farther back in the trigger guard. Curt covered the back strap on the 60 but not on the 640. This extra length on the 60 places my finger on the trigger for a better trigger pull in SA.
