gentlemen, just got a 60-4 3". really dirty inside. took apart & cleaned.
cylinder stop does not return all the time. if you dry fire it works most of the time, cylinder locks etc. if you open & close cylinder, the cylinder will rotate freely until the stop finally pops up. thanks. ps it did this before i took it apart. got it cheap. thanks. any ideas ?

I went back and read your post. Got it cheap was the key there... I would think the stop spring is either kinked or broken. They are tough to get in properly. A stop just does not "go bad" without a lot of cylinder swing closing or lots of heavy DA load shooting.

It either pops up or it doesn't. Figure out why it doesn't pop up. It has to be either it is all burred up and needs filing to back to original shape or the spring is messed up or someone has replaced the original with the wrong cylinder stop. Be careful and don't lose the spring.

It could be gunked up down there that is a tight fitting little area where the spring is located. If you removed the stop during the cleaning and cleaned it I would think it not stuck with gunk. Does that have a plungger on it can't remember? Did you check for gunk or a burr in the window where the stop sticks through to the cylinder?

I'm currently replacing a cyl. stop on my J-frame. Keep in mind that
replacement cyl. stops from Brownell's and Midway are MIM and the
spring hole is different- they are now drilled off-center. If I could
find an NOS cyl. stop, I would go that route.

The binding will be from a damaged spring or burrs on the cyl. stop
and/or window in the frame.

The cylinder stop from the Numrich link I provided is the old style. It is not MIM.

just got a used, but good cylinder stop & spring from numrich. installed w/a little fitting. all is well. thanks for all the replies.
