Model 60 no dash - date help?

I have a nice mod 60 bought in late 1970s, sn R2233xx, paid $180 for it new. I still have box etc and put a set of small rubber grips on it and stored the originals. I would post picture, but never learned how. Can anyone tell me when shipped, I think 1977-79?

This will be my 3rd "J" frame but my first Model 60. Great, my S&W infection has spread to now include the "J" variant....lol

And the "J-Variant" of the S&W infection can be very serious.... I'm in at well over a dozen so far.
Don't forget that there is a Model 60 Target Model too. You should have one to go with the one you just picked up. They are Model 60-1 that shipped around 1985. It is said that fewer than 700 were produced, but they are regular offerings on the big gun auction site.

Great, I hope I don't get the "J-Variant" as bad as you JH1951. I'll keep my eyes out for a cool one like that. Yours is a sharp one!

The messieurs Spica & Nahas published the information available to them at the time. We've learned a lot since 2016.

AAZ likely shipped in 1983.

AAR has the earliest known ship date -- December '82 -- for a Model 60 in the new alphanumeric serial number series.

Thank You!

Charlie, that was one of the most inspiring posts I have read here. I can not begin to imagine what you went thru/are going thru with the loss of your wife. Be proud of how well you raised your children and how you continue to show them how to respect and remember their mother's sacrifice and legacy. Thank you for such an amazing share and the dedication of service for both you and your wife. May that special Model 60, and the other one your daughter now has in her mom's honor, continue to be cherished and passed down thru your family for many generations to come.

And I was honored even more today by watching my daughter receive her Masters Degree. She has already started on her doctors degree.

PIcked it up!

Brought it home yesterday and hope to put some rounds thru it this weekend. The Pachmeyer grips feel great!
