So I was searching the classifieds here, a few weeks ago and came across this 5" model 60-18 for sale. I thought that it would be a nice gun for my wife, since she has smaller hands, and the 5" barrel would be even nicer with 38's. I can't seem to find much on the model 60 with a 5 inch barrel, anyone have any more info?

I read that article and found it interesting. I thought that I also read somewhere that they were made with a 5" pipe, so that they could be imported into Canada back when they could still have handguns, avoiding the 4 inch barrel rule.

I bought a 60-18 when they first came out. I was hoping that S&W was going to follow-up with a 5" .22 and .32 also, but that has never happened. I have always wondered why S&W never offered a 4" option for the Model 36/60 series.

The 60-18 is the only S&W I have bought with the integral safety. I had two times in one day where the gun locked up on firing! It was sold shortly thereafter. I wish it hadn't had the lock!:mad::mad:

Note: Read my signature! This is true.

I did not want to buy the lock-delete for the gun but I did cut the "tit" off the safety that is supposed to engage the hammer. The two incidents of spontaneous locking both occurred after the safety had been modified! I have no idea what part of the safety was causing the problem, but it did! I sold it because it might have been carried and I did not trust it after the locking episode.

They actually did make a 5" in the .22, 63-4
