I have a few questions about my model 60's. I have 2, one is pinned and the other is not, but they are both no dash model 60. I was wondering when they were made, the pinned one is serial number R16480x and the non pinned is AYV777x. I also
thought that when they quit pinning that it would have had a dash number. Hoping you guys could enlighten me. Thanks for the help.

Eliminating the barrel pin alone didn't warrant a revision. They did issue a change on centerfire magnums when they eliminated the recessed chambers, which generally occurred at the same time as the pin.

Your R prefix gun is from the mid-1970's, the other about 10 years later.

If Santa brings you the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson (referred to here a lot as SCSW) ~ you'll really enjoy it. Lots of pictures, facts, dates, serial number info, etc.

I just looked they have this at Midway USA, next time I order I am going to get myself one.

I just don't understand. How can anyone wait till Christmas for an essential book like that? I'm guessing one could forgo eating, drinking, or medication for a week or two more easily than not having that book.

I gave each of my son's their own edition, just to eliminate the risk they might be tempted to steal mine. Anyone else trying to pack it out the door may get shot.

Is it raining outside? Good, get the book out and read. Is it too dark out to do anything? Another excuse.

Read the book. Then become a believer. Its less painful than you might guess.
