model 60 target

One of the (in)famous distributor specials - if you ran S & W and could sell a few hundred to a few thousand guns with different features and make it worth your while, you would. It's utility is debatable, but such models are definitely good for collectors later on!

Here is it's blue brother. One of the most impractical guns made, but it is sure fun to shoot.

I have three model 60's one of which is a target model just like the one pictured. The other two have fixed sights. Without a doubt the adjustable sight beats the other two hands down for a sight picture and the ability to shoot more accurate. I think it's the best of the chiefs specials.

Mine shoots "DEAD ON" at 15-25 yards . Guys at the store that I bought it kinda laughed at it but I love all five of my J frames .

I believe Lew Horton had some at one time that were 3" Model 60s with adjustable sights.
I wish I had one of them.

When ya can't see those itty bitty sights... ya gotta get one.

Here she is with her big brothers, 19 and 686:

However, if you put a 3" barrel on that thing, then you've got perhaps the best woods-walking gun they ever made. Well, maybe not grizzly bear woods-walking, but still one fine shootin' iron. -S2

Speedo2,
This is not a mdl 60, but a mdl 36-1, with a 3" bbl & target sights. In spite of all the fancy stuff, it is one of the most accurate and "fun to shoot" guns I own. Supposedly the previous owner killed a Cougar with it when it was just plain blue, and had it engraved with a "French Finish" to celebrate the feat!

Beautiful gun, there Gator.

I've got a 3" M60 w/ adj-sights, like the one pictured above, and I agree that it's unexpectedly accurate and also great fun to shoot. I also like the fixed-sight 3" M36, but I've found the 3" M37 to be somewhat challenging due to its sharp recoil. With stag grips, it's not one of my favorites. Oh well, just color me a cupcake. I imagine one of those scandium, j-frames in 357; that would be no fun at all. About the only up-side to the alloy j-frame, 38 spl was that it got Mrs.Speedo to stop complaining about why those little guns have to weigh so much; we had a practical lesson in physics, specifically impact and momentum. . Back to the topic; I do believe that an adjustable sighted M36 (preferably 3" bbl) just went to the top of my "gotta get" list. -S2

The 2" M36 with target sights was sold for a time by HH Harris Company in Chicago. Herb Harris was kind of the John Jovino of Chicago, located a half block south of the old PD HQ. He got a lot of unusual Smiths, unfortunately I did not have much money in those days to buy any of them. I believe he went out of business in the late 70s/early 80s.
