Model 60 timing problem

I finally went to the range with my "new" (1969) Model 60. It worked single action, but failed to fire when I tried deliberate double action. The hammer falls before the cylinder is locked, and the firing pin strikes just at the edge of the primer.

Guess I didn't look closely enough at this one before buying.

Should this go back to S&W, assuming they still work on revolvers of this age, or is it something most professional gunsmiths can handle?

I'm in Birmingham, AL, in case anyone can recommend a gunsmith.

Hey Mark, I believe S&W would work on that gun. You can give them a call and find out for sure.
There is a gunsmith in Jasper that is supposed to be top notch but his name escapes me right now. You might call one of the local shops and see who they recommend.
If you bought it from a shop I'd first carry it back and see if they will repair it.
That's not much help but I hope you get it straigthened out.

Let me add, there is a small shop on Main St. in Pinson called Independence Gunworks, 681-0052. I have not used them but you might call and talk to them about it.

This was my first purchase on gunbroker, so there's not a dealer to go back to.

Yours is the second recommendation of Independence in Pinson, so I think I'll give them a call.

I'll probably call Smith, too. If they'll work on it, that might be my first choice, except that I dread having to ship it.

In most cases the out of time revolver problems can be repaired quickly & easily by a good G/S. If you have no G/S's in your area you trust, S&W should be able to fix it as well. If the problem is more than just a worn hand, then S&W might be your best bet.
