I just picked up a 617-1 in excellent condition. Probably paid to much for it but it called out to me. The serial # is BRS60XX, can anyone age this for me?

The BRS letter prefix is not specifically listed in the SCSW 3rd Edition. The closest is BRF in August 1994. The 617-1 was made from 1993 to 1996 so that's in the correct range. Note that the three letter prefixes were not used sequentially so the only way to know is to; 1 call or email the factory and find someone to help, 2 get a factory letter or 3 join the SWCA and ask Roy Jinks for the ship date.

Congratulations to you guys and your newly purchased 617-1 revolvers. I have one that I purchased like new in 2008, and usually I contact S&W for year of initial shipping, but for some reason I haven't done it yet on this one. Mine is a 4 incher with serial # CAR 90XX. In a moment of weakness I let a 6 in no dash full target get away from me prior to buying this one. Full of regrets on that move.
