Hi.
I have one model 617 with a wedge-shaped firing pin, and a newer one with the round type.
Both are frame mounted.
I have heard that the new type is the wedge-shaped one, so I guess it has been replaced on the older one.
It also has a bushing with an internal "rail" to keep the firing pin upright.
The wedge one gives more reliable ignition, even with a Wolff reduced spring, while the round one requires more spring power, so I am looking for the wedge one with bushing.
Which leads to the big question: Which part number is the wedge-shaped firing pin and bushing, and which models are they really ment for ?
I can not find these parts in S&W diagrams and parts lists for model 617.
