Maybe this has been covered, but when I go to the Smith and Wesson website there is no .45 ACP listing under revolvers, and no 625. Did they actually quit making it? I thought it was popular, I have a 4" model that is one of my favorite guns to shoot.

They have ceased production on 45acp wheel guns, for the time being. Sure they are popular to us forum folks but to the first time gun owner or someone looking for a CCW, a big ole 6 shot 45 acp stainless N frame just isn't as appealing as a 686 or 642 or that new fancy shield x plus that holds 13+1.

You can also tell the news has spread quickly. Evidence, like closed GB auction prices, have shown over the last couple of months that these are still in high demand. Lock or no lock, all of the 45 wheel guns are going for a premium right now. I'm glad I've held onto mine, my model of 1988 with action job and Wilson Springs is one of my best shooters.

The only revolver in 45 L C is the m25 there’s no 45 acp. And a few more N frames are gone too. Well have to watch if they do short production runs in the future. You would think they would offer two cylinders one in 45 LC the other in 45acp? I would buy one in a heart beat. The second the sales and demand falls off the gun manufacturers seem to drop the hot potato. I hope the revolver market picks up sales wise. I think the plastic pistols have peaked.

Ruger offers there Blackhawk in convertible, in 357/9mm, 40 cal/10mm and 45acp/45 LC,

N frame .45acp’s are my absolute favorite. Certainly hope their omission is only temporary. Also have a Thunder Ranch in 45acp.

I am glad I still have my 3 and 5 inchers - I regret trading the 4”. I also have 2 MGs in 45 Colt.

46 acp revolvers are my favorites. No policing brass and super fasst reloads. I never understood an autoloader cartridge in a revolver till I owned one. Now it my absolute favorite and the variety of them available is astounding. One of my favorites..and yes I shoot it a lot...

My enjoyment of ACP revolvers is fairly well known. When the factory did not make what I wanted, I converted a 4” Model 28-2. If I need to, I will do it again! It is the lower left in the photograph.

Some of my favorites, ready to go.

S&W has dropped popular calibers in the past only to resurrect them down the road. The difference lately is the popularity of their autos with police/military as well as civilian personnel.
This makes it more difficult to schedule shared machine time for revolvers.
The 610 and 657 are examples that lived another day after being 'dropped'.

I'm a big fan of 45acp revolvers, but due to the current state of the ammo market, I've found myself shooting my 625-2 a lot more than my four older revolvers. Reason being, I was able to buy a bunch of 45gap rounds (30 cents/round), and I know the 625 can easily handle the higher pressure. I own very few S&W revolvers that dont have a pin in the barrel, but I was attracted to 625 based on the recommendations of a friend and opinions on this forum. It is a great revolver. Too bad it's gone. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes big bore revolvers that don't beat you up. If you want to go retro with a 45acp revolver, the models 1950 (left) and 1955 are both off the charts great revolvers. Both of these are over 65 years old. No photos, but I also shoot 1917's from both Colt and S&W. It really cool to shoot a piece of history.

Love my 625-3...and kicking myself for selling the 5" -3 (w. box) several years ago. I do hope S&W brings them back. In the meantime, the current S$W .45 revolver prices are soon going to seem dirt cheap. Buy one if you can find one.

My 625-8 JM Special is one of my all time favorites! I have shot it a LOT! Since I cast my own bullets and reload, the ammo shortage hasn't reared it's ugly head for me, yet! Hopefully, we'll get back to normal while I still have some primers!

After I lost the vision in my right eye, I switched eyes, and with the Red Dot sight, I was pleasantly surprised to have my shooting back at top level in only two sessions!

I gifted my youngest son, my 5" 625-6. It is also a stellar performer!

I am fortunate to have three S&W revolvers in 45 ACP. One is a 4" 625 and the other two are Model 22's. One has a 4" tube, and the other is a near-duplicate of the 1950 Army model.

I carried the 625 when I was a private detective in Kansas.

A few days after taking possession of my 625-8 4 inch it was announced here that Smith had discontinued it. Guess I got lucky and snared one of the last ones made. I'm glad I pulled the pin when I did. No it is NOT for sale. bob

I shoot only cast bullets in mine. It ought to last a few lifetimes. I use both .45 ACP and .45 Auto Rim cases. I also use both Ranch Products steel full moon clips and RIMZ plastic full moon clips, where appropriate.

These are very versatile handguns, both On the Range and In the Field!
