Model 627 PC 2 5/8", size comparison photos

I'm very interested in having a new Model 627 PC 2 5/8" be my next gun purchase. I've yet been able to find one locally, so that I can actually hold it in my hand. Without seeing one in person, I'm having a hard time getting a good perspective on its size. Does anyone happen to have any pictures of their 627 revolver, shown either in hand or maybe even showing it's size compared to other guns or items (like compared to a full size 1911 for example), so I can get an idea of its size? I know I'll love the revolver, I'm just wondering about what conditions are necessary to make it feasible for any form of concealed carry. I currently have a little Glock 27 for concealed carry. I know the 627 is going to be much larger, but I also know that if I have one, I'll want to carry it some of the time, even if it's only on cold Michigan winters, when wearing a big, heavy coat.

It's an N-frame. Any N-frame revolver you find will be close enough to tell you what you want to know. Also, fwiw, I carry mine concealed nearly every day and have since I've owned it. It's just a matter of dressing around the weapon.

First off, the 627 UDR is an awesome gun ... I just qualified with mine for CY2012.

The bulk of this gun is in the cylinder width ... which I just measured at about 1.75". There are some belt holsters which position the cylinder above the beltline, so as to eliminate some of the protruding bulk. Nevertheless, as XTrooper noted, it is an N-frame revolver and thus, is big and heavy compared to other "compact" carry options.

However, don't let that dissuade you. I love and carry my 627 all the time, both on-duty and off.

Thanks for the replies. I did a little work myself and thought I'd post this, in case it helped anyone else. Using information on gun sizes, I compared the 627 to a few guns that I was familiar with and put together some visuals. These are close approximations based on manufacturers websites. Not exact, but a good representation for my purposes.

I occasionally carry a PC 627 with the 2 5/8 inch barrel in a Galco Combat master holster; I also carry my duty Glock 22 of course in a duty holster, but also in a Galco Cop II. The issue for me carrying concealed with the PC 627 is not so much the size, it is the stinking weight, the recoil, and the capacity.

To have reasonable fire power with 8 rounds in the PC627 I carry Speer Short Barrel .357 giving me 290 Lbs. in muzzle energy. This is a manageable load for follow-up shots (unlike say some other Speer and Federal Premium .357 loads with over double the muzzle energy).

Problem is, I look at my duty Glock 22 (.40) with the Federal Premium 180 grain loads at 392 ft. lbs. of muzzle energy, and all of a sudden I have more energy, less recoil, faster follow-up shots, more accuracy, DOUBLE the capacity, better concealment, and my pants aren't being pulled down.

I'm not far from the off-duty OIS that happened up in or around Nashville a year or so ago when he was 3 on 1 in a motel lobby shoot out. The off-duty officer prevailed shooting all three armed robbers, but the difficulty/combat factor goes way way up if he'd been packing a 686 or PC 627. Then last month in NYC, there was an armed crew of nine people robbing drug dealers that thank God the arresting officers happened upon just two of the guys when the balance of the crew happened to be at another location, and the rest were arrested with planned overwhelming force.

I carry the Glock more and more, and on duty I wouldn't carry a revolver if I could although I used to think I would. I love my 627 PC, but it is increasingly relegated to a hunting side arm with full load .357 Federal Premium A Frames. And it may eventually be sold and replaced by a Wilson Combat Elite 1911 even with the capacity loss.
