Hi,Welcome to the forum. I would say $575.00-650 depending on its condition is a fair price range. In North Carolina that gun would be $650-750...You can never go wrong with buying an N frame. They are very tough. Depending on what you are going to use the gun for you will not be lacking power for even a bear....It will be a little hard to conceal if that is your plans...

Looks like it was ready to be shipped in 1998. In good shape I'd say the $650 to $750 range is about right. The used "DX" guns frequently bring a premium, the new ones always do. If you want a 44 Mag you can't go wrong.

I bought my DX in 1992, I don't think they had been out long. I sure would not sell it for the prices quoted. I think this era of the early to mid '90's S&W made some great guns. Almost all seem to be timed correctly and consistently, with good fit and finish. If it has not been abused with very heavy loads of heavy bullets, it should be a fine purchase and last a long time.

I recall I paid about $600 for it new and was glad to get it.

thank you very much for the feedback!!!
i have never owned a Smith and Wesson.
i have been doing some research on the model 629-5 DX CLASSIC and there has been mention that this model has MIM parts and a frame mounted firing pin.
I am not sure if this is good or not so good?

The Classic DX's came with interchangeable front sights(I'm thinking that these were a red ramp, a Patridge, and a gold bead), plus two sets of grips........factory Hogues and Morado wood combats. Make sure you have the whole kit before you pay top dollar.

The 629-5 Classic DX was (and is) a great revolver. The single-action trigger pull in mine is breath-taking, and the double-action trigger pull is very good. Mine came with about half-dozen front sight blades. If the DX is in good shape, get it, you won't be sorry.

I live in So. Calif. so I don't know anything about prices in the real world.

It was out of my price range, but a Classic DX just sold on Gunbroker, NIB for $966.00!
There haven't been many used ones listed.

Myron

Does the seller have the box, front sights, and target with the gun? If not, that would lower the pricing since the front sight package if probably going to run you as high as $50.

I have a -3 that was part of a package deal. By the time I finished selling off the reloading equipment I did not need and subtracting the reloading components I am using now I have about $400 in the gun.
