I saw one of these listed in very good condition with performance center case, it does have the dreaded lock and has been fired. What is the value of these guns and how many were produced??
Thanks in advance
Sam

The SCSW list a M629-3 Carry Comp and a Carry Comp II, both made for Lew Horton.
The Carry Comp just says limited production in 1992. Product code 170012.
The Carry Comp II says 100 made in 1993 and has an unfluted cylinder. Product code 170026.

It must have been a later production. The ILS didn't exist in 1992 or 1993.

That's what I was thinking...I just don't know a lot about this pistol and can't seem to find much info on it.

I talked to the owner and he told me that it is a 629-3, but has the internal lock. Now I am even more confused, how does a -3 come with the internal lock?

Does it look like this? It's a 629-6 Carry Comp from the PC, that came in the huge aluminum PC case. They made a run of them, several years ago, that was supposed to be limited (as advertised anyway). Now I believe they are a standard PC item. I really like mine, it's got a nice smooth action, ball detent lockup, and the comp tames recoil somewhat.

Yes sir that is exactly what it looks like, but how could it be a -3? Do you also have any idea what the current value of one like yours is?

I don't know; I think the -6 was the first of the with-lock 629 Carry Comps, but could be wrong. I bought mine new and think it was around $850 back then, from a distributor. I know the price on all S&W's PC guns has gone up a couple hundred $ since then.

They re released the carry comp in the early 2000's with the lock. They usually sell for around 1k. The pre lock versions are usually around 1300-1400. They make a great woods gun but you really have to pay for that fixed sight.

Maybe he sent it back to S&W for some reason.. S&W installs the locks on all incoming revolvers with the dreaded lock.

just thinking out loud.

Are you saying S&W is installing locks on pre-lock guns sent in for repair? I've never heard of that and don't believe that S&W would go to the trouble of machining someone's frame without their permission just to install the lock.
