Silly question for the one's who know. I just ordered a 629 from my local dealer and I know it comes with black grips. Is there a place to get wood grips that look like the ones that used to come with the model 29? I've waited 24 years to buy a 44 mag, and have always liked the old style wood grips.

This forum's classifieds usually have some. Look on ebay and other gun auctions sites as well.

N frame targets is what you need.

Be prepared to pay through the nose for the official original grips from private owners.

Check with S&W, both on their website and via telephone. They may have current production beauties for direct sale.

I've found that Hogue has some nice feeling wood grips that fill my hand well. I put a set on my 57-5 and will most likely put a set on a new 629 that I ordered yesterday. The Hogues are sized just like the rubber grips that came on both of our 629's...but in your choice of wood. They install in about 45 seconds if you really take your time. You'll find them on ebay for ~30% less than from Hogue.

Good luck.
