Looking for a value on my model 63 no - kit 4" 22 6 shooter. It has been shot and I do not know how many previous owners , suspect one or two. I would call it vg condition. I have the box, tools and all accompanying paperwork. I think its cool but I wanted a 686+ pre lock snubbie worse, so I bought one. The plan is to sell the 63 to fund the 686. I know.. backwards but I like buying and hate selling. Could I get some help on the value of what I have. Pretty set on selling it unless its a big mistake. Any and all input is appreciated, Thanks in advance.

Not having the original stocks detracts from the value. All the older S&W rimfire revolvers sell at a premium. With the box, in excellent condition, lacking proper stocks, it's likely to trade hands in the $600 to $750 range.

Depends on how much you want to keep it. If'n you like the gun and will be sorry as soon as you sell it, keep it because you can't readily replace it. If you are indifferent and won't miss it a bit, slap it in the classified at $800 and reduce it according to "market conditions." It is a nice one whatever you decide. Joe

BTW, though the gun is not stamped, it's actually a -1. You can tell because the barrel is not pinned. Most -1s were not stamped. It's actually kind of rare to see a -1 that's was marked as such.

Also, based on the date code on the label, the ship date for this gun is.......
September 10, 1984.

Your's was among the first J-frames to get the (then new) triple-alpha prefix serial number. S&W had only started that practice in about January of 1984 (with J-frames).

Wow thank you guys for the quick responses. How hard would it be to come up with the proper stocks. Maybe sell the current ones separately or as an added bonus.

It would be easy. Square butt J-frame Magnas are what you need. You can pick up a pair for around $50 with patience. eBay sells a lot. The Hogues might sell for $40. I think they're about $80 new.

Really appreciate the help. I would love to repay somehow. The information is valuable to everyone. Is there another way to clearly identify the accurate value of a piece besides asking the board every time. I don't want to be a mooch. I do have a strong interest but it seems like it would take awhile to become competent and I have other interests as well. Beers on me...

Welcome to Forum, mkirby! As usual, the Kernel nailed it on value, although with "everything" as a complete package, it may get more.

Become a member on GB (auction site), and you can search completed auctions for whatever model of gun you wish. While values can be a bit inflated on a national auction site, you can at least see what the make and model of your interest has sold for in the last few months. HTH!

I bought mine brand new. I took the grips off and put rubber grips on. It is the last revolver I would ever sell, as it is the most versatile gun I own. As with most every gun I ever sold, always to buy another, I have regretted it. I hope you don't.

Advice on keeping your gun is sound and you will be very happy you did and very sad you did not in just a few years. Your gun looks very nice even without proper stocks and like another person said; they are easy to come by with a little patience on Ebay. I would easily eat top Ramon, hot dogs, or baked beans for awhile were this my decision. Good Luck on what ever you decide and yes, it is ok to ask gun values here, these guys are the holy grail of information on Smiths as is GB if having a membership...

Really overwhelmed by the willingness to share here. I almost feel like it's my birthday with all the positive feedback. Can't express enough thanks! I had to go without (*it) for awhile after my wife found out that I bought another pistol {686+ -4 2.5"} without telling her. So Ramen and hotdogs should be easy ;} "Back in the box" just like woody in Toy Story.

 I know the value of the old 63 4" I used to have. :(
PRICELESS! I wish I had never sold it.
My new one is back at S&W now. Don't sell your revolver!
