Model 63 Question?

I recently purchased this Model 63 no dash off the forum. According the Standard Catalog 4th edition, the reason for the change from no dash to -1 was removing the pinned barrel. As you can see, this one does not have a pinned barrel but is clearly a no dash. What gives?

My model 63 is the same as yours. Made in the early 90’s but stamped MOD 63 only

Interesting...I guess maybe they didn't stamp the dash variations on them?

I just sold a 63 that was the same way. No pinned barrel but it was a no dash.
I'm curious to see what the answer is.

It depended on how many frames were "in Process" at the time of the change. My Feb 1981 Mod 63-1 has the pin, but the Mar 1982 Mod 34-1 does not.

Probably late 1982.

I have one M214259 so mine was made about 1536 units prior. I guess that would put production probably in early 1982 or late 81. BTW mine is a no dash no pinned barrel.

Another owner here of no dash 63 and non-pinned barrel. S&W factory was using up parts during transition period.

Another example: My 1981 Mod. 63 (no dash) S/N M188531 does not have a pinned barrel.
