Model 63 stories? (22lr J frame)

I bought mine in '82. My son was three years old at the time. I probably jumped the gun a bit (bad pun), but decided to let him shoot it. I taped some balloons to a box and squatted down behind him with my hands surrounding his, helped him cock it, and let him aim and "squeeze the trigger!" and he managed to pop some balloons. He'd leap up and down and howl in excitement. He loved it and enjoys shooting to this day. His mom, on the other hand, gave me hell.

I still have the gun. Here she is:

Awesome story. I'd have an ex wife if I did that. :) My big butt, and my 63 would be at the curb.

Cool story. One day, when the time is right, maybe you can pass it along.

I, too, was born in 1979. My first handgun shot was a SS S&W .357 mag loaded with .38's. My stepdad was going through the police academy at the time.

I'm glad that with this latest iteration, they decided on a 3" barrel. It's well-balanced physically, and visually on the J. I'm unsure on the 8rd wheel, but I haven't seen anyone complain yet, LOL.

Agree completely - that's why I'm holding out for a new one. I want the 3".

I am very fond of my 63-5. It contends with my 617-1 and Ruger SP-101 for best all-around .22LR revolver. The winner changes often, usually based on which I held most recently. The 63 No Dash did not ring my bell. I sold it.

model 63

As my handle reads -22shtur, I have several 22 handguns, and the model 63 is my favorite. I shoot indoor league bullseye and hunt a lot of small game - I shoot a lot of 22 lr ammo with handguns.
I have; K22 Outdoorsman, K22, Model 17's, Colt woodsman's and revolvers, and High Standards. I've enjoyed them all, but will be selling off everyone of my 22 handguns, except the model 63. As an ardent 22 handgunner, that says a lot for the model 63.

I bought mine new in 2011, my LGS had two to choose from. I chose the one that shaved lead really bad.:( I sent in to S&W and had it back in about week with a new barrel. I also got the S&W wood shown above. It shoots great and never had any hard extractions.
Probably the last gun I would give up. Can't beat a revolver for 22's

My son is now 36 and has quite a few guns of his own. I think he has forgotten this one, he claims to remember shooting the balloons but I don't think recalls what gun was used, just that it was a .22 handgun. I plan to pass it on to him in the near future.

Wouldn't mind trying a new one, but the only one I have seen in person looked like it was made by Mr Magoo.

Good news!!!!! My lgs got 2 of them in yesterday. One is put back with my name on it, should have it in my grubby hands tonight. (Already have a Sunday appt at the range)

Will post photos.
