Just purchased this and I will be able to sleep now. I have had two other of these and sold/traded them away. I cannot sleep without a model 63 in my gun safe so now i'm set to go again.

I'll never sell my no-dash, which I bought new in the early eighties. Your grips are way nicer than mine though!

I hope I don't weaken and sell this one. I am weak though when it comes to that old buy/sell/trade routine. I hope my grandson ends up with this one. The grips came from a nice gentleman here on the forum and so did the tyler-t.

Congratulations! I traded off my first year production 63, took a few years before I got another one, this one is not going anywhere.

Heck if I scored that sweetheart I wouldn't be able to sleep! I'd be fondling her in front of the TV all night watching some shoot 'em up movie:D Ya did good, I sold mine after all my sons had graduated to centerfire guns....forgot that one day I'd have grandsons (boy that day came quick:eek:), Thank goodness I had a few brain cells left and kept my 17.

Congratulations on the find. What an ensemble you put together with the polished gun, grips and t grip. Sweet looking.

Happy shooting.

I bought a recent production 5" 63 from my late range buddy's estate. Some springs, a square conversion Hogue monogrip for it's J-frame RB, and it is a shooter.

I later added a green HiViz front sight - right height, as no elevation correction was needed, but a little long for the base:

I also added a DS-10 speedloader and 4 x 8 loading base (Late model 63's are 8-shooters!). It is a range time hog of the first order. I offer it - or this year's promised 3" 63 with an orange HiViz, SKU #162634 MSRP $869, as an alternative, as the older models are hard to find. It may yet be a wait for the 3"-er - promised last winter and in the 2010 catalog, it is still not in their build schedule. The 5" 63's are still out there...

Stainz

Stainz, if you have any Lapua Midas L lying around, try it in your 63 5". From a very solid rest with good lighting my 63 5" will consistently break an inch for 5-shot groups at 25 yds.. Even el cheapo Rem Golden Bullet 36 Gr. HPs dance around an inch with an occasional mild flyer.

Mine was sold as "Used" because it had been hand selected by S&W as a gun writers' test gun, according to Roy. It's as slick as grease and will compete with any J or K frame out there with ammo it likes. It's the perfect .22 LR trail gun.

Hey, join the club!! (I think I'm on my 3rd. Model 63 at this point) :-)
