I own one S&W revolver. A Model 63, no dash, purchased used decades ago. It came with a set of Packmayr grips. I'm guessing it's from '77 to '80 but would be interested in the year if someone has the catalog lying around. The S/N is M168xxx

I am also interested in finding a set of period correct S&W grips for it. Square butt I assume. What are they going for?

Thanks.

I wouldn't assume it's a square butt. I have a Kit Gun from that era that's a round butt.

Ebay is a great source for older grips, as is Numrich. Smooth targets tend to go for about $100, checkered for less, and magnas for a lot less.

That s/n places the gun in the first quarter of 1981. The majority of Mod 63's were round butt. I find that a RB to SB conversion grip fits my hand better, or factory grips and a Tyler T Grip.

My 1981 Model 63 has a square butt. I found a pair of new old stock S&W J frame checkered target stocks on ebay for $55. That was several years ago.

I bought two Model 63's no dash, new form the LGS. One in 1978 and the other in 1980, both have square butts.

THE "book" states...model 63 square but 1977 - 1993.....round butt 1994 - 1998....

starting in 1994 they came with Uncle MIke's grips.....
