Hello to all members! Maybe some of you can help me with this little confusion.

Acording with my readings the fabrication date of a model 64-2 is 1977, but have a prefix of 3 letters (AEE), that indicate something?

Many thanks.

I have the idea that the 3 letters prefix start in the 80. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm not an expert in this matters.

You sure it's a -3? AEE indicates an 85 or 86 vintage gun. Maybe using up a -2 frame and put later number on it? Stranger things have happened.........

From the SCSW ver 4

64-2 2" ran from 1977 till 1988 and became the 64-4

The 64-3 1977 was a "Heavy Barrel" became the 64-5 in 1988

Same odd/evens approach as the Model 10

I read that 3 letters prefix start in 1980, so according with that the fabrication date of this revolver should be; Nov. 1984 AEV- AFJ. I'm right?

Jimmy was explaining this, but let me reiterate.

The Models 64-2 and 64-3 were made at the same time; 1977-1988. One had the tapered barrel, the other the heavy barrel. Both would still have been in production in the 1984-85 period.

The first use of the three-alpha numbers was in 1980, but not all models got them at the same time. AEE was used in 1984-85, but there is no way to know what month and they may not have been used consistently or consecutively. You'd have to get a letter to have any certainty as to when your revolver shipped.

Eddietruett's serial number (7D93842) is from 1981, indicating the number series was still in transition. It could very well have shipped in 1982, as he stated.
