Hey guys,

I'm a smith noob and want to make sure I have the right grips. I purchased a 3 inch model 64 online and still am waiting for it to be delivered. I purchased bantom rubber grips for round butt for the gun and the pictures of the gun have some in-closed rubber grips that look like square butt. Did they make the 3" in square butt too?

Its a 64-5 I just thought all 3 inch guns were round. I like and want round butt. I'm am just thinking the grips on the gun in picture are round to square conversation grips.

Hogue Monogrip Grips do offer a conversion from round to square but not square to round.

your S&W model 64 is probably a round butt. square butt grips will fit both square and round butt revolvers.

there were a small number of S&W model 64 NY-1, 3 inch barrel, revolvers made with square butts. it is highly unlikely that you will ever see one.

I believe the NYPD had ordered some 3 inch square butts, but I,ve never seen one. In any case they would be marked NY-1 on the crane.

OK that answers my question... Even though the gun is coming from New York I think all NY-1 were DAO and sperless. Thanks guys that makes me feel better.

I hope you get a clear answer from someone more knowledgeable than me, but I believe the 64 came in both, round and square.

They were, and a -5 would have the serial number on the left side just below the cylinder.
