The two together are long gone; I still have the others.

I forgot about the nickel #10 I used to own.

You can't beat a 3" K frame. I recently picked up a 3" 64-3 to compliment my 3" 65-3 and -5's. Now I need a 3" 10 to go with my 3" 13-3.

First photo is a Model 64, Model 10 (RB that was refinished in a matte blue due to wear) and a Model 10 (SB)

Next up is 2 Model 64's (one SB and one RB) that started life out as 4 inchers prior to some custom work by Mr. Throne.

And last up is a collection of J frames (60-4, 642 and 640) This photo is missing my latest pick up a 36-3 Lady Smith.

The first handgun I ever shot was 4" Model 64, but the first Magnum I ever shot was a 3" Model 65. Both of them were my grandfathers service revolvers, the 64 was issued during the 1970s when it was deemed inappropriate to issue officers Magnum revolvers. The 65 was from the 1980s when it was deemed appropriate to issue officers firearms with proper stopping power.

To this day I do not think there is a better defensive revolver than a fixed sight 3" .357 Magnum. Unfortunately, S&W no longer makes them. The 2.5" and 3" 66s and 686s are nice, but the adjustable sights and extra weight seem to throw it off for me. Both the 3" GP100 and SP101 are very tempting alternatives though.

By the way, the Model 65 Ladysmith should have been kept in production and brought out in a non-Ladysmith version, with bigger grips and standard finish. The fixed sight and shrouded ejector rod is such a beautiful yet rare feature on S&W revolvers. It makes me wish Smith offered the 520 in a 3.5", or a 2.5" or 3" 581/681.
