MODEL 64 ROUND BUTT

I have been offered a 4 inch Mode 64 no dash, round butt revolver, with box. I was wondering what they are worth in today's market. Excellent condition, extra Hogue wood stocks. I carry a 3 inch, and think it would be nice to have a 4 inch shooter.

A 4” SB K frame is a joy to shoot. So is a RB with RB-SB conversion grips.

I just swapped a pair of conversion Pachmayer’s for Thai combats on my 4” 65 RB and haven’t been shooting yet. But I expect it will be great like a 3” or 2 1/2” K frame is with combats.

I just ordered a set of Thai combats like your's shown for my 3" 64. I would like to know a value to pay for the 4 inch.

I do not know what to tell you.

As far as what you should pay for it. But I bought one when they came out new. And I really like it a lot. Mine has the heavy barrel. I do not plan to let that one go anytime soon. These days I would say that if it is clean and you can snag it for +/- 500 bucks, I would tell you to go for it. I would not bother with one that has been neglected or abused.

I would guess that what you are describing is worth about $700 plus in today's market.

I'm a big fan of 4" round butt revolvers. I bought a 4" blue M19 back in 1979 to carry to the police academy. The first thing I did was to round butt it. The firearms instructor loved it, saying it or a fixed sight version (M13 or M65) was his idea of a perfect police sidearm.

I hope you can buy it and shoot it a bunch.

To the OP: is it a 64 with standard barrel profile or heavy barrel profile? I don’t believe S&W made any Round Butt 4 inch guns with standard barrel profile. If it has the standard barrel, then it has been modified which would take down the value but nevertheless be a great shooting revolver.

Agree, it probably started out life as a 2" model 64 and had the 4" barrel swapped on. Plenty of early model 66s had the same conversion done.

If you pay the amount of the most common 64, the 4” square butt, and you like the round butt better and think it’s special and hold onto it, you can’t lose. There are plenty of reasons above not to pay more.

I had picked up a couple 4 inch heavy barrel round butt 64s about 10 years ago.

One was a VA DOC trade in and one was a Brinks DAO trade in. I think top pay was $400 or so for the Brinks.

Not sure I could go over $500-550 for a basic used model. Premo condition with box and docs I could see $700.

Prices are nuts right now though.

Had the VA DOC one cut to 3".

Well, I bought the revolver and it will be brought to me at the end of the month. Revolver appears to be a heavy barrel, the box end says 4 inch, and it comes with an extra set of Hogue wood grips. I have bought from the seller before and he coming to our gunshow, so saves me 200 mile trip over the mountains. Total cost is $550, he came down a bit, but it finishes my M64 collection, I think, unless something else pops up. I have the 2 inch, 3 inch (EDC), 4 inch pencil and heavy, and DA only heavy 4 inch. Is there anything else? Thanks for all the replies.

Sounds like you got the bases covered! Maybe look into the M65 series?

Hey mod10…… how do u know it’s a brinks gun? Is it marked? I have a DAO model 64 that I assume is from a security company but it has no markings at all.
