Just picked up a NIB Model 640 no dash. Serial# - CEN78xx.
All I can find is a production date of 1989-1996. Anyone have any idea on how to get a more specific date?
Thanks

If you have the original box, check the label for "spec ord." That four digit number is the julian date that will get you close.

Edited to add: The first "spec ord" number is the year; i.e. 9 would be 1989 and the next three numbers are the day of the year; i.e. 011 would be the 11th day of the year (January 11).

Then that date is the 108th day of 1990.

Edited to show the correct year. Initially I posted 2000, but should have posted 1990.

And just to reiterate, the Julian date on the box label under Spec Ord, cannot be considered to be a manufacture date, or even a shipping date. Its my guess that it is the date the label was printed. That's why I said in my initial post above that the Julian date would get you close. How close, nobody knows.

I have a 640 no dash as well, and I think it's a 170043 but the label was missing from the original PC box. Serial is a PCU prefix.
38 spc, power port with pearl inlay Badger grips. Is there a way to tell if it's a 170043 or a 170042?

I still have the training wheels on since I just joined a few days ago so I can't post pics yet.

This was helpful for me as well. Based in your information, I have one that was made on the 190th day of 1993. This is may second 640. I got it in trade. Surprisingly the box came with it. It wore a set of Uncle Mike's boot grips when it came into my possession. I don't know if these were original or if it came with wood grips originally.

The first 640 I had I bought in the early 90s. It came marked on the inner frame for +P+, and had the smooth wood grips.
