I've been chasing one of these for a little while. I've not been a real fan of the newer .357 J frames, and I like the idea of a .38 Special for a "belly" gun. The LGS had a couple of snubbies that they took in on Tuesday. A couple came in Wednesday looking for a snubby and the counter guy brought out a Model 10, round butt in nickel, and the 640. Since they were ahead of me, I figured they'd take the 640, and I wasn't really interested in a K frame snubby. They really liked the Model 10, and asked me which I'd prefer. I deferred to them, and they selected the Model 10, leaving the 640 for me.

I took it to the club today and ran 150 rounds through it. I put on an old set of Mustang's, that are a bit loose, but they worked fine. This one's a keeper. Not exactly a "grail" gun, but a very nice gun.

Very nice. Everything you need in a small personal defense weapon and nothing you don't. +P feels a lot better in this than a 642. Joe

It may, but the 642 kicks it's *** in carry ability. I have both, but for carrying the 642 wins every time, and it's not that bad shooting +p rounds in practice with it either.

The 640 is my favorite j-frame, so much so that I own two of them. I have a 1-7/8" (640 / marked +P+) for pocket carry and a 2-1/4" (640-1 / .357) that I carry in a belt holster.

Get a good fitting pair of stocks and have a ball shooting it.

I have a 640-1 and I like it for heft. I run some 357s through it but not a lot. 38 +Ps are sweet. Yes to Kadonny, my 642 carries great. either one of them everywhere any time.
