Metal fatigue broke half the circular portion on the plunger end. I have tried the usual suspects: Numrich, Brownells, Midway, Top Gun Supply, Jack First, Deer Creek in Atlanta, googling online, several phone calls to smaller parts shops and an e-mail to S&W, who sent me an auto-reply saying they would get back with me in 5 days. I understand it is the same rod as the one used in the 4506, but it too is scarcer than hen's teeth. It has been suggested that I have a machinist fabricate me one, and that may turn out to be my only option, but I would appreciate your guys thoughts and/or leads on finding a replacement one.
