I saw one in the store today for $350.00,looks great. The serial number is AWA20XX and I'm looking to find the manufacture date . It would be used for the house and sometimes carry. I have heard that using 38 would be OK with 357 occasionally. How difficult would it be to go from a 4 to a 3" barrel? I always thought the 65 was a great gun and have been looking for a while. Any and all feedback appreciated.

The price is great. Probably made late 1987 to early 1988 as "AWA" is not specificly listed. Shoot all the .38's you want, use the heavier 147 to 158 gr .357's and I doubt you ever have a problem. If you use .38's be sure to get the chambers clean so that extraction of the longer .357 don't give a problem. Finding a barrel might be difficult and cutting back the barrel somewhat expensive. With a proper holster and dress a 4" K frame would not be that hard to conceal. I wouldn't worry about the 4" tube.

If you are going to carry be sure and secure whatever credentials are required before carrying. Don't get in trouble for "Going Armed" and loose your gun and the potential for obtaining a permit.

The M64 was meant for .38 , the M65 will have
NO Problems with magnums.

At $350 I guess it would be worth having the barrel CUT if you really want it shorter.

With a proper holster the 4" carries fine; also easier to shoot well and slightly better ballistics.

I carried a 4" wheelgun concealed for many years in lieu of the issue 3". Still do much of the time.

3" guns are nice--I wouldn't kick one off the doorstep--but the advantages are more illusory than real.

If you get the right carry set up, you can carry it all day long and forget you have it on you.

I carry a M65 4" daily, sometimes up to 14 hours at a time depending what we are doing and I have found it just as easy to carry as a compact auto and it seems to conseal better.

+1

The correct support gear is key. My holsters for it come from K&D Holster and my belts from The Beltman.

You are correct the 65 is 357 mag caliber, however, it is a K frame and extensive use of mag loads will cause harmful wear to gun. Give it large doses of 38 special and light doses of 357 mag and you will have no problems...
