Model 65 with 3-inch....Anyone CCW with One or Any Other 3 Inch model?

I carried a 2” Model 10 for years as an issued weapon but these are just too heavy for EDC, at least for me. It now sits in my nightstand w/speedloaders & a flashlight.

I am a fan of the 2.5 OR 3" barrel in J or K frames. I carry the one in my avatar practically every day. It's a custom 642 by Jack Weigand from 1998 given to me by the NC Assoc. of Chiefs of Police for serving as their president. I usually pocket carry it these days. I carried the Model 66-1 2.5 in the first attachment while serving as a Deputy US Marshal in the 1970s. I used a Roy Baker Pancake holster and 38+P LSWCHP. The ejector rod was too short to reliably clear 357 magnum loads.

The 2nd attachment is a Model 10 with interchangeable cylinders. One is the original 38 Special. The 2nd is a cylinder cut by Pinnacle Gunsmithing to use 9mm in moon clips. I also use a Roy Baker pancake holster with it and 38+P LSWCHP loads in the 38 cylinder and Hornaday Critical Defense in the 9mm cylinder.

With all 38s, I carry one or more speed strips in a leather pouch or pouches that slide on my belt. In cold weather, I drop an HKS speedloader in my coat pocket.

3” model 65, 3” model 10 and 3” charter arms undercover each carried in a simply rugged pancake. Can be QWB or IWB as the belt straps are removable

I found it quite easy to OWB carry my 65-3 in a Don Hume H721-OT holster. Holster holds the revolver close to your side and is very comfortable.

Hi Larry! I have a 65-5 that I've been carrying on a pretty regular basis this winter. My gun is set up similar to yours. I use a Simply Rugged Pancake holster. The holster is pretty versatile, in that can be used for both in the waistband as well as, outside the waistband. You can also carry cross draw if that is your preference.

I don't find the gun to heavy at all with a good belt. For ammo I'm a fan of the Short Barrel Speer Gold Dots, either in .357 or .38 special. I use both varieties. I also carry both a speed loader and a speed strip.

I really love the trigger on my 65. I haven't felt the need to have any work done to it at all. I did paint my front sight with bright orange nail polish though. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine!

I think a 3 inch K frame is the best carry revolver going. Stoked with buffalo boar ammo. I carried a 3 inch M64 DAO bobbed hammer for a few years in an Milt Sparks Executive special originally made for my M696. Since the model 64 has the heavy barrel, but is smaller than the L frame and has no lug, it rode down in a bit more then the 696, and carried very snug. My only complaint was that holster sill collapses too much for easy re-holstering.

I'm currently carrying a 2 inch M10 DAO I had made up from a beater 4 inch. Using a Garret leather lined kydex IWB for it and it re-holsters like a dream and it is much easier to get on and off than the original Milt Sparks. BUT I can shoot 3 inchers much better than 2 inchers every day.

Might get the same Garret for the M64 soon.

I bought this 65-3 in December 2019, as a Christmas gift to myself. After shooting a bunch of different ammo, it became my EDC and has been since. I carry it in a holster I bought on ebay, which essentially is a copy of the Galco Combat Master. I got it for half the price, and I can't detect a difference in quality.

When I bought this revolver, I didn't care for the look of the grip, so I bought some nice contrasting Altamont stocks for it. Well, it turns out they're slightly too big to get a good grip on the gun from the draw. They put my index finger (shootin' finger!) too far back on the trigger. They forced me to adjust every time. So, I swapped them back. These Pach's work just great. I figure function is more important than form on a carry gun, so I can live with them. I'll save the Altamonts for any future photo shoot.

3 inch Model 65 in Milt Sparks VM2 for daily carry. Carry two Safariland Comp 2 speedloaders, one in a DelFatti Leather model SLC on left side on belt, one in left pocket. Lots of practice in speed reloads. Very easy to carry.

Pachmayr Compac Pros (the open backstrap version) are a perfect fit for me as well, and are, IMHO, some of the best shooting grips on a round K/L frame. The rubber grips can print under lighter clothes, however. And, as you noted, not as pretty as wood. I'm currently trying out the PGS hideout grips to see if they can win me away from the Pacs.

I picked up a 3” 65-3 in early 2018, qualified with it easily, and have carried it for work. It’s very comfortable, I carry it in a Threepersons style holster with a thumb break under a sport coat. I use .38 135gr GDHP+P in it.

When I’m not carrying the 65-3 I often carry a 2.25” SP-101. It rides in a Bianchi 5BH, and is loaded with .357 Golden Saber. I’ve been carrying that gun since 2008, never shot less than 99% with it when qualifying.
