I purchased a 66-1 about 6 months ago and it really didn't hit me until tonight they were supposed to have smooth triggers. I guess I was used to my 19's. Hard to tell anything in the photo except the color seems to be different. Seems to have a whitish color to it and the hammer. Box is not marked in the sections for trigger and hammer. Could this possibly be put in when it was built? Was it likely switched out later? If so why? The gun doesn't show excessive wear and mechanically great. It shoots great and a nice Typical S&W trigger pull both DA snd SA. Will try to get a closer shot of the trigger tomorrow when it's light.

Thanks. That had me concerned as I was looking up something on wickipedia real quick about certain changes in dash models rather than get my S&W book and noticed it said the 66 was different from the 19 having a smooth trigger etc. I knew mine was grooved and was a little concerned.
Thanks again,
JR

As a general rule, the smooth "combat" triggers don't start showing up on 66s until after the barrel pin deletion. Yours is likely factory. ;)

I have an early no dash with a smooth trigger, original to the gun. I sold a no dash that had a grooved trigger. Both of my dash one's have grooved triggers. Go figure.

Your 66-1 is about as good as they get. My 2.5" 66-1 has the serrated trigger. I bought it new. Let us know how you like shooting it, but I think I already know.

My 66 no dash had a grooved trigger.
Hammer and trigger are white in color because they're matte stainless. [emoji14]

Are you certain? I don't recall the 66 ever having stainless hammers and triggers, just the flash chromed carbon steel, like OPs.

That was an assumption on my part because they polished to the kind of slightly-yellow silver sheen I associate with stainless. I no longer have that gun in front of me, though, so I may be remembering incorrectly.

Smooth "combat" triggers and "target" hammers in the flash chrome finish were not available for the stainless revolvers until the early 1980's.

I bought my 66-1 in early 1979 and desperately wanted to put on the smooth trigger and target hammer. They were not factory available until three or so years later.

When they did come out I installed them in my 66. By then I had become so used to the grooved trigger and shorter hammer that I changed back to the stock parts and the revolver has been stock ever since ... except for the stocks ...

HAd an early 66 no dash that had CC hammer and Trigger. Stainless sights too. Never shot it as you truly could not get a good sight picture in daytime..(with the sun shining. It also did not have a red sight insert. Sold the darn thing. I still have a couple of pictures of it here somewhere. This was pre digital.....oh heck. I'm pre digital. Feel even older

My 66-1 2.5 in. barrel (transitional model made in 1982, recessed but not pinned) still has the grooved trigger.
I have the original grips, but these are better looking (in my own opinion) and more comfortable in my hand.
It's a really sweet shooter! :D

P.S. Greetings from Italy! :)

My 66-1 has the ribbed trigger. This is my keeper section of the safe. I also like the darker grain of the grips on a stainless gun. I forgot to take a picture of the end of the box with the label.
