I know some of the forum members get tired of these questions, but ultimately the more experienced members still have the knowledge and experience.

I am more of a Colt guy so I am a bit ignorant and there are so few of these I can't really get a gauge using the Gunbroker completed listings.

I only know 2 people that do Smith revolvers and there opinions were far enough apart that I can't get a real good idea of the value.

Its a 66-2 LNIB. Original box/papers/grips. 3" barrel. What is a fair price. Not looking to resell the gun, just wondering what a fair price is.

Up to $1200 is fair. They spiked to over $2000 recently in actual auctions, but I guess the dozen rich guys have theirs now, they're not being bid up like that anymore. Still, you'll be lucky to find one LNIB less than $1,000, and you never know when they'll blast off again.

$1000-1200 is the range that folks have been posting over the past couple of months.

Only about 5000-6000 3" pre lock 66s made....... -2s,3s and -4s.

Funny when the dash 3s came out in the late 80s they couldn't give these guns away.........it was all hi-cap autos. I got 2 with trigger jobs for about $270 out the door.

My used -4 with Spegel Boot grips has been my primary carry revolver for the last 10-12 years....... they are great guns. A lot of folks didn't/don't know about the 3" guns and they get sold as 2.5 incher's. That's how I got my -4 for $325......sold as a run of the mill snub 66.

These guns are too nice to be "safe queens.".....

Saw one in the box, if it had been fired it was very little, for $900 in January. If I did not already have two (which I bought for $600 each two years ago) I would have bought it.

I recently bought (and posted here) a 66-2 3" and it was $1200 on the nose. I saw one I liked and really didn't shop around after that, though.

$1200 is reasonable. You will be VERY hard pressed to find one for less.

One on the for sale side now, NIB for $1400.

That is the reason I was asking. I am interested in the gun but didn't know its value. Seems as if the asking price is a bit high but not ridiculous. I now have a bit more knowledge to make him a fair offer.
