Model 66-2 . Trigger , Hammer question.

Looking at a 66-2 from early 80's. Appears really nice inside and out ( other then no box and grips don't match). Gun has a target trigger and target hammer. I have never seen a service size revolver in that configuration. They have it at 800.00 which seems fair I guess.

I once had a 4” 66-2 that came from the factory with the hard chrome target hammer/trigger. Bought it from the original owner, had everything and the box was marked to reflect those features.

No box at all. Looks like was fired few times if any. Never seen a service size 66 with overtravel stop and target hammer and trigger.. I guess I just get it. Lol.

You should have a nice shooter. $800 in today's market is about right. 10 years ago they were $550. As little as 3 years ago one for the same $550 might be available through vigorous searching and lots of luck.

Very well could be a low round count gun. The TT, TH and trigger stop could have been done to a base 66-2 by a gunshop or gunsmith at time of purchase or anytime during last 40 yrs. The grips probably weren't original to the gun. OTOH the gun could have been ordered as you now see it.

The finish could have been restored to what we see today by someone who was skilled and handy with tools. Regardless gun likely wasn't used a bunch previously, because the cylinder notches are crisp. Shoot and enjoy!

They could be special ordered that way too. I have 2.5" 19 with factory target hammer and trigger. Always thought about swapping em out.

I just saw a 4” 66-2, standard hammer/trigger with matching box but none of the materials/tools for $1k on consignment in a shop. Seller was firm due to the shop charging 20%!. On top of that is tax/background check fee-pass.

I would grab that one in the op in a heartbeat.

I have a 66-2 in the 4" "triple target" configuration with the overtravel stop. It is the best shooting of all my Smith wheelguns.

This one is early 80's I think. Right after they dropped P&R. I got it today. Total with taxt and everything came out to 750.00. Shop gave me little discount. I am happy. My Christmas present to myself. Lol

Got this one a few years back from the original owner unfired in the box with target hammer and trigger. 4” 66-2 also have a 19-5 with the same features.

Dam fine 66 at a dam fine price! If it shoots as well as mine, you'll own it for life. Stocks are off of a model 10 or similar fixed sight K frame, but look good. If they fit your hand well you're gtg, my meaty mits need something bigger. Here's a pic of mine (top) with my IHP 66-1. I wish it was set up the same, but actual service revolvers rarely were.
