model 66-2

hello, on a local forum i put up a kahr k9 for trade (id value it around the $650 mark) I'm requesting a model 686 or 686plus in 4-6" barrel. I've gotten a response and ill admit its got my knees a lil weak. A model 66-2. I'm more after a little larger frame .357, but i love my model 19 and this is just a stainless version. If its in good shape, value would seem to be right around $500. i'm waiting for details on condition and what not before I move ahead on this trade, and more trade offers.

Provided this gun is in really good condition, why shouldnt I trade my kahr k9 for it? Learn me some model 66!

The grips look pretty banged up, makes you kinda wonder how well the rest of the gun was kept and the -2 is not pinned and reccessed. It's tops a $400-450 gun if the mechanics are okay. I would not make the trade without boot. But, it's your gun, your choice, only my opinion.

The 66 is a great gun BUT a 4" without box, papers, and cleaning kit is worth about $500-$550 AROUND HERE, prices do fluctuate in different regions.
Make sure you get some cash back.

I think it'd be a reasonable trade*...IMO, and with the market around here in mind, a $650 trade-value for a used K9 is a bit optimistic. They still make K9's, but they'll never make pre-MIM & pre-ILS M66's again. YMMV.

I got my 66-1 for 500.00 out the door, and it is in very good shape, just needed my cleaning touch, but I'm obsessive like that. I would definitely get cash on top of the deal.

I'm trying to negotiate a cash difference OR a holster and ammo. I figure if he has a nice leather holster laying around for it and wants to part ways with a box of .38 spc and a box of magnums, it would be something to consider. Ive told him a 66-2 in 98% is worth $500. Im waiting on info from him, but we aren't in a real rush, who knows i may get an offer for a 686?

I must say it looks in better shape than my model 19-8. My main concerns are the cylinder not being tight on lockup, which im not sure what makes it tight. (what makes it tight? When in full lockup the cylinder has 0 movement?) And being in great mechanical condition. I listed in my add i expect the gun to be in as good working order as my kahr k9 with only 300-350 rounds through it.

Also like robinet said, they don't make anymore and you s&w collectors are a lil off your rockers, so if i keep this gun in good shape, i would expect it to go up in value.....listen to me talk myself into this! THANKS GUYS! lol

$500 for a nice 66-2 sounds about right, where a nice used K9 would be fair at around $550 out here. As far as the gun's lockup & overall condition; the gun wont lockup with zero movement as you could expect a Colt to do, but there are good/bad tolerances. If you haven't already, be sure to read over Jim March's checkout guide; it'll tell you how to perform all the necessary checks to see if what you're looking at is any good or not ----> Revolver Checkout Procedure

Priced is based on your area. In my area today it’s $375-450. I have not seen one with a box sell lately. Revolvers sell slow in my area. I'm not up on the value of the pistol. IMHO Paul

one question, i got my model 19-8 $400 after tax when in full lock up the cylinder will spin fractionally, no movement followed by a click, just a lil movement. Everything I've read and watched said thats ok. Not a perfect lockup but it should still be in time. Now on this gun, i expect it to be mechanically in excellent shape. so how would it compare to my 19-8 which is deff. a shooter quality.

I've read that document more than once and i even have it printed out on my desk.
