I have a 66-3, 2 1/2 bbl. I have fired less than 200 rounds of 38 spl. lead from it. Have box and docs. I am considering selling as I don't really use it. Any help on value, both for private sale and selling to LGS? Thanks

As a potential buyer, I'm not sure how much stock I put in the number of rounds that have been fired in a gun. There is simply no way to verify that information. For a private, face-to-face sale of the gun (providing it is in really good shape), I would guess you might get anywhere from $550 to $650 for it. Of course you will get many low-ball offers, but eventually someone will give a fair price for the gun. If your LGS is like the ones that I deal with, they will give you no more than 50% of what they will retail it for. So what that means is if they put a $699 price tag on it, you would hopefully get $350 on a trade-in.

I have been guilty of trading in a gun for much less than I could have sold it for in a face-to-face transaction because I REALLY wanted a gun that I saw under the counter. I always knew that I was getting screwed on the deal. Hopefully, I have become more patient in my gun dealings at this point. If I miss a buy, there is usually another one that I can find AFTER I sold my old gun in a private transaction. I live in Texas, so it is very easy for us to sell guns face-to-face. Good luck!

I just bought a really nice one in 2.5 in 66-1 from a guy in ky for 525 shipped, but i dont think he knew what he had,if yours is nice it will bring 700 easy, dont get in a hurry, ive seen them sell for as much as 1000 lately. You should really consider keeping it, its a smith thats really going to go up in value, especially is its a snubby, everyone loves them.

Am interested - pics?

Take care,

Rachel

P.S. Keep the gun but if you are going to sell, then pics would be required for me. I'll PM you.

There was one recently at my LGS for $700. It was nice, but I would not rate it excellent. For Central PA, that price was a little high. Depending on the condition of your M66, I would say $550 to $700.

Blue book says 675 with a add on of 10% for the 2 1/2 barrel and a premium with box. Its a great little gun.. I have one in HIGH POLISH. I love it just bought some Original Combats for it.. Be here in a week. I would imagine you could get 700 plus for it all day. especially off the forum.
