Model 66-4 Question

I just joined this forum and have a question.
I traded a new model 638 air-weight for a model 66-4, 2 1/2"
barrel in very good condition. My question is does anyone know the manufacture year with a serial number of BPY9XXX?

Welcome to the forum.

On page 400 the Standard Catalog of S&W, (SCSW) has an incomplete list of the 3 letter prefixes by year. The three BP_ prefixes are listed as 1993 production, however, on page 230 the dash 4 engineering change is listed as occurring in 1994, so 1994 is a good estimate for your 66-4.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. I thought about buying that book on line but had read that the serial numbers were not all in it so held off for now.
