Gents:
Today I looked over a Model 66 no dash. It has the stainless rear sight, Baughman front on a 4" barrel, target stocks and a 4K serial number.
Condition, including stocks - which are flawless, is 95% plus. Everything looks correct. No box.
The guy wants $695 which seems a little bit high without the box. What would you say?
Thanks,
JP

bit high

JP,

That would be a bit high in this neck of the woods. Without the box and accessories, a 66 no dash usually goes for $550-600 in shops. You can sometimes get them for about $100 less in a private sale (if you can find them). But if I really wanted one (and I didn't already have one), I would not hesitate to go to $650. I have both the 2.5" & 4" no dash 66s and love them .

Hope this helps.

I agree the revolver is $100 to $150 to high without the box and goodies.

Yeah, my No Dash 66 that I would call 99% in the box, was $575.00 out the door at that was top dollar in my mind. $695 looks like a nice price on GunBroker land, but not in real life.......

I wouldn't sell my 2.5 no dash for that, but I wouldn't pay that for a no dash. I agree, $100 or so too much.

Something to maybe factor into the decision is what extra cost there is (if any) to ship to Alaska. If you find one in the lower 48 for a better price, will it end up costing the same as the local one after you add in shipping and transfer fee?

66 are my favorite but that price is a tad high. I'm looking at a decent early 66 with stainless sights at a pawn shop right now with Goodyears on it priced at $450. I'm going to offer him $395.

I've got two 66 no dashes and won't pay more than $400
I realize that this is a good deal but that's the name of the game with me.

Good point and good advice, BaldEagle.
I'm leaning toward making him an offer and walking if he won't come down. I'd actually rather have one with its box anyway. But if he's willing to dicker and come down substantially, then maybe I'll go ahead and buy it. I kind of need this gun to round out my 19/66 shelf, if you know what I mean.

I guess I have to wonder where anyone is seeing enough quality no-dash 66s in any area to draw an accurate value assessment.....

Many 66 no-dashes and dash 1s were made. But since they have been out of production those completely original guns that are seen available for sale are declining at a very rapid rate...

It would be interesting to hear a "sampling", by posters, of the number of 66s that were observed as having been sold in order to arrive at these price conclusions.

I have to wonder how many people have missed out on what may have been a rare opportunity for them to purchase a very desirable S&W because someone else thought the price was a little too high and they listened.

I don't challenge or dispute any of the prices I see quoted. Every area is different for pricing as well as for supply an demand. But when I see prices being quoted for high demand handguns and they are similar, if not lower, than those I see for other manufacturers grossly inferior products I have to wonder how these figures were determined....

Just sayin'

How much do you want one?

How long will it take for another one to pop up for sale locally?

If you go buy one on Gunbroker, how much will it cost to ship one to you up in Alaska?

In the remoter regions of the country, one sometimes one has to pay a premium to get what one wants. I lived in the woods of Maine for a year and am familiar with a lack of selection.

Is finally having what you want in hand worth $50-$100 to you?

No doubt they will always be some of the most desirable K Frames out there, still they aren't that rare with a 4" barrel. Prices vary even state to state. Here in Memphis everybody wants an automatic, revolvers just don't look right when you hold them sideways. Nice pinned and recessed 4" barrel 66s go for $450-$500 at pawn shops and gunstores. My in laws live in a small town in Missouri and I saw a real nice 66-1 sold for $650 at the local gunshop. The guy that bought it was really grinning too. :)

good point

Good point Terry. I don't see a lot of them around in my area, but I see about one a month (10-15/year). I have picked up 3 over the last year. It's strange that I actually see a few more 66 no dashes than 66-1s.

I guess it goes in cycles. I was seeing a ton of 28-2s over the last 6 months, and now there are none to be found.

I just bought a no dash, stainless sights 66 in Fairbanks, AK for $500. That being said, my wife bought a 66-7 in town for $550. What my wife wants, my wife gets;) It's hit or miss up here in AK. There is currently a 66-7 in Anchorage for $450.

Hi Jack. Just making sure you saw my PM. I'm selling the no dash and not the -7 for $550. Sorry for the confusion.
