Whats the value of the 66 no dash, no box, all stainless with target wood grips, gun looks to be in good condition, seller wants $700, think thats to much.

Just my opinion..... $700 seems a bit high for one in only "good" condition....if "good" means "as new in box" it's an OK price.........

Lots of folks will say "stainless" can be cleaned up but I'm guessing future collectors will know and devalue ....... like a refinished blue gun.

Let's get some other input..........................................

I got one just like that at a LGS a few weeks ago for $400. But I think I was lucky. Without the box and other stuff $700 sounds high to me.

I just paid $550.00 for one in what I call "good" condition, no box or papers. It had a few scratches and dings, and the finish was sort of dull. I took some Flitz and wax to it and it looked a lot better.

In the gunstore when I put it on layaway.

After being cleaned up. The light was MUCH better.

The S/N says it was made in 1974. I THINK those are what people mean when they say "stainless steel sights", but I don't know for sure that I've ever seen a set.

$700.00 is more where I'd expect to see one in like new condition, with box and papers.

I think CajunBass gun shows how a "cleaned up" gun "looks"different..... remember Stainless 66 were intended to be Police guns.... and most were.... so my guess is that +95% will only be in fair to good condition .......carried a lot shot a little. You can tell Cajun's grips have seen some serious use....

Not knocking CBass's gun or his decision to clean it up.................

CBass a question: is the sight adjustment screw blue? What about the sight blade?........IIRC my screws on mine are stainless...... could be wrong..........happened once before..... or so my wife says :D

My rear sight is entirely stainless, screws, blade, everything. I hear they are less common than the blued. Hard to see the sight in this picture, but here's mine.

You're right about the grips. The right one shows a lot of wear, but the left one, is still in pretty decent shape.

The adjustment screw and sight blade are both black.

$700 is way much for a 4" 66 in just "good" condition and no box. If I just had to have it, I'd pay $625 at most -- and that's still too much. But I don't know how much you want it -- that counts for a lot.

Here's a good picture of stainless sights on a 66. They can be pretty tough on old eyes at certain levels of light. The other 66 no dash in the collection has the blackened rear sights and a red ramp on the front post. It is far easier to acquire a good sight picture and is my preferred shooter.

Thought I'd check in on this thread..........

An observation not a rant...... but I think the worst description one can use in describing a gun is............. "good condition".

Everyone seems to have their own idea of what is "good"....... and good condition can vary even in my own mind if the gun is 5 years old or 60 or 100......and while there are no 100 year old stainless guns ...... my idea of "good" varies even between stainless and blue guns.......

I think this is covered in the SCS&W..........

I tend to agree as "good condition" is a relative term and usually varies greatly.
IMO, a seller's good condition typically is over rated and not indicative of the true condition. Even when strictly adhering to NRA rating, there is room for discretion.

That's what I thought "stainless steel" sights should look like. When I first saw the one I've got, I noticed the rear blade was black/blue and wondered if someone had swapped it somewhere along the line. It wasn't until I was looking at the pictures I noticed the adjustment screw was blued also. The rear blade does have a white outline. No insert on the front sight though. I had to give it a manicure and add a drop of white/orange nail polish to get that.

The trigger and hammer on this one also look different than the others I've seen pictures of of. They look like they came from a blue gun. Toss in the fact that the cylinder release latch has been trimmed down, and it looks like someone tried to make this one his own.

M66 N/D and 67-1, Must have revolvers

If you can afford to wait and be patient you will find one in no time as there are still many out there in fine condition. Here is a 66 n/d I bought earlier this year on GB for $470. It closed on a weekday and no one was paying attention. It came with a beautiful pair of Target grips that are to large for me that I sold for $70.00 on the Forum in 2 hours and replaced them with what fit me best, Ahrends Retro finger groove, same price. I really didn't have to look long, just bookmark potential keepers and wait and watch . I did put a little time and effort to bring this 66 back to it's former glory, it was a police trade in. Good Luck

Looks like case hardened hammer and trigger...... should be S/Steel or flash chromed........
