Model 66 three inch AGAIN......

I remember trying to aquire a 66 2.5" in the late 1970's when they were mostly going to DEA people. It was rare to find one on the shelf to purchase and the prices were high. Now the 3" has taken that slot.

I will play devils advocate here. I love my 66-4 4 inch. I OC it around the ranch and town a lot. But for CCW my 2 inch J frame fits perfectly. I tuck my 66 in my belt sometimes when the dogs are barking at our friendly Mexican hikers. Cutting an inch off to me wouldn't make in any easier to carry.

Or am I just jealous.

This is a good point, I like the 3"er's but after dropping a 3" 24-3 (no damage) after bending over with it tucked in my pants I decided that you really need to holster them.

I bought the one below for $500 two years ago, direct from the original owner. He advertised it as a 2.25 inch barrel, apparently measuring from the end of the frame to the end of the barrel.

I picked up this 2.5" M-66 two yrs ago for a mere $200. It also came with a holster and 150 rnds of ammo. I was just at the right place at the right time.

Note: Someone needs to school me as to why the 3" version is more valuable/sought after than the 2 1/2 version.

I've shown these pictures before, but dammit these little fellers are addicting.
A couple for collecting ,and a few forshooting.

Dregg,

Nice score on that 2.5" 66, congrats!

The 3" is worth more primarily because it is scarce. The 3" barrel also offers a full length ejector rod for postitive ejection of spent casings, and the 3" balances perfectly. Nice size and relatively light weight, combined with a good cartridge for self defense put the 3" 66 at the top of the list for carry revolvers.

Shooters like myself, who appreciate these qualities of the 3" pre lock 66, are in competition with collectors for these limited revolvers. That drives the price up too. Regards 18DAI.

The grips on my 66-4 are Ahrends finger groove round butt grips in silver black dymondwood.
