Hi, they ( you ) aks me to post more and for this i was waiting to have a good question to do.
So i just acquire a Mod 66 no dash in VG+ condition and i am asking me witch is the more desirable of the entire serial 66 model.

I took a Mod 19-4 in Mint condition the same day. I pay the both 950.00$ ( 2 guns ). Is this a " Fair " price ?
Ho, the 66 has a Fuzzy Farrant grip on and i am loohing for an original grip for this one, if someone can help Please.

Thanks, JB

It's seem very difficult to post photos, but when the guns will be home, i will send photos to someone who is usual to do it for me, if i can ose.

As far as which is considered "better" I'm not too sure.
I have the -1 that I'm very satisfied with, however I bought it used for 350.
You decide what is worth the cost based on rarities and how bad you want the gun.

If it's collector grade revolver the 66 no dash has a following and the prices have moved up on the ones having the stainless steel rear sight. I've seen them selling with the box, paperwork, and tools for $550 to $650 lately. That said if it's a shooter garde Model 66 no dash with the stainless rear sights and without the goodies I would say it's worth a small premium and probably would sell for $450 to $500.

Congrats on your 66 and 19-4! Superb revolvers. I think you did well on the price for both. :)

I like, and own, all the 66's up until the 66-6. I think the most desireable are the 66-4 and prior as (except for late production 66-4's) they don't have any of the cost cutting measures or MIM parts. Most collectors prefer the 66 no dash and 66-1's as they are P&R. I'm a shooter not a collector and prefer the non recessed cylinder on my 66's for easier reloading.

The one 66-5 I own is a shooter grade. I got it for cheap and use it as a range toy. It has the ugly MIM trigger and hammer. It does have roll marks though rather than the cheesy laser etching that later 66-5's got. It runs well and keeps the wear and tear off my better 66's.

My favorites are the 66-2's and 66-3's. I like the flash chromed hammers and triggers with the stainless finish. I also prefer the attention to detail and fine construction of these earlier 66's. Three of my 66-2's have triggers as good.....or better, than my Performance Center revolvers.

After the 66-5 S&W incorporated more cost cutting measures in the model 66 and of course the lock. I don't bother with those at all. A short run of 66-8's were produced before production of the 66 was curtailed. Those had locks, two piece barrels, laser etched markings and were festooned with MIM parts. Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI

Thanks to All for yours goods comments, these models are hard to find in
QUEBEC, so when you have the chance to find you take them up.

The 66 no dash with the stainless sights is the most desired of the 4" barrel version. I have both a 1972 stainless sight and a 1976 blued with orange front post 66 no dash and the blued sight model is by far the easier to shoot. 66s are among S&Ws best ever.

I agree with Sheepdog....

The most difficult to find and the best finished are the no-dash and dash 1's IMHO, Pinned, recessed, footballs and some 1's were among those with the first speedloader cutouts. No mims, no IL, etc, etc.... What's not to like?

I hope that you find the ones that you most want. Bonne chance! :)

What's this I've read about Canada requiring barrels over four inches? Ruger now makes a GP-100 with a 4.2-inch barrel, I guess to meet the Canadian laws.

Your right Texas Star and Smith&Wesson are doing the same to with populars models.
I prefer the 4" , they are REALS S&W.

Merci, JB

Upon reading Terry's post, that answered my question.
My -1 has the speedloader cutouts which the salesman had thought made the grips period, but not original.
Good to hear some shipped with them.
