Decided to pick up a birthday gun for myself. Got it from a private sale. He advertised it as a 66-4 and I was mainly looking for just pre lock. Met up with him and gave a brief inspection on it and took it even though it was a little rougher in person than the photos I saw. Got home to clean it and upon further inspection turns out it's a 66-1. From what I read -1 seems better than -4 but not sure why. Anybody know what year it might have been made? Also thinking about sending it to Nelson Ford for an inspection and some work.

It's a belt and suspenders kinda thing. Most folks (including me) prefer the older pinned barrel and recessed cylinders. These were gone before the 66-4. These 2 features have absolutely zero effect on accuracy or performance. Only aesthetics carried over from the original Magnum, that were eventually deemed unnecessary and dropped to save on production cost.

Haven't shot it yet but now I see why everyone loves the 66. Feels perfect in the hand.

recessed cylinders.

The counter bore looks nice BUT make sure all of your carry reloads (second 6 for the gun) have brass that is in pristine condition. If there is any burrs in the rim of the case, it won't allow the round to go completely into the cylinder, which won't allow the cylinder to close.
