Model 669 questions

I am new to the forum and have several questions for the more experienced members here.

I am borrowing my fathers roughly 20 year old Model 669 Stainless Steel semi-auto. It has been in storage for the bulk of its life and probably needs a good cleaning.

Does anyone have any intel on where I can find take down instructions?

I have an idea on how to do it, but would rather have some instructions handy if I get stuck.

Also when dry-firing even the single action trigger pull is about a mile long. Any suggestions on improving this?

Do a search on YouTube, I have seen a field strip video on the very similar S&W 6906 there.

Contact S&W for an instruction manual.

All traditional DA/SA semi auto pistols will have a long pull on the trigger, I have no idea how to improve it, other than tell you to try a DAO pistol, such as a S&W 3953 or 5946.

Try these two. The utube is for a 6906, but it is the same procedure. there are loads of them on Utube. I like to hook my finger in the trigger guard to hold the slide in line, but you should find what works for you.

In single action mode try catching the reset. After you've moved the slide back to cock the hammer (ON AN EMPTY PISTOL!) let your trigger finger out slowly, you should feel the reset which is extremely short!

Cleaned it last night. Shot it today.

If it weren't my father's it would be in the classifieds.

Doesn't fit my hand well, trigger is abysmal, and getting the pin out for field stripping is a royal pain.

Major...Two spots to visit. The 1st is a field strip pictorial & good info: m669
The second is a recall list, scroll down to the 669 model. There was a recall on the safety: Firearm Recalls and Safety Warnings- FirearmsID.com. They have a listing of the affected serial #'s.
Also, on this forum, there's some pics of a 669 with a cracked frame. Use the search feature.

I have a 669, bought it awhile back. Mine was a "Nite Stand Queen". Had to send it in to get the recall work done (no charge). Once you get through the first DA pull, all successive SA pulls are light & quick and on the money. I really like mine.
