Okay gentlemen, I need your assistance. Part of the assets of an estate include a Mod. 67. It is the first model so, was made between 1971 and 1977. It wears a set of K Frame target grips and I have not removed them from the frame yet.

My question involves the finish. I know it is stainless steel but, it appears to be "polished", which is not uncommon, but, it does not have the front ramp insert. The insert may have come in the later models but, I want to be sure.

I also have a question about the rear sight. Most of the stainless steel S&W's that I have seen have had adjustable rear sights that have a "blue" finish. This model has what appears to be a stainless adjustable rear sight, including the tang that attaches to the top strap.

Please give me your respective thoughts as to the original finish and the finish on the adjustable rear sight.

Thanks in advance!

Looks like you have an original Model 67-0 with the stainless steel rear sight. The original Combat Masterpiece had a higher polished finish than most other stainless revolvers. I too have a Model 67-0 and it is a very nice piece of hardware. It has the stainless steel rear sight. the finish has been brighten a bit due to me polishing out some blemishes and the fact that I like shiny guns.

Sounds just like my M-67, except mine came with the Magna service-style grips. My serial # starts at 3K3xxxx, produced in 1972.
Small caution: the screw holding the cylinder latch often works loose on stainless models of this era: do not lose it when firing. Also, the small screw securing the rear sight fixture to the top strap would loosen on my 67; keep an eye on this. Nail polish, often recommended to secure screws, wears off too easily. I have had this happen on 4 stainless revolvers from this period, so I know whereof I speak.

Enjoy your great gun! Hope I've helped.

I just bought ($450) a 67 no dash serial #18k29xx last week. Original grips and papers came with it and it's looking really nice after getting cleaned up. I didn't notice that the finish had more shine than usual and mine does not have the early stainless rear sight. Trigger pull is pretty nice and I'm anxious to get out and shoot it. I'm new here and will post photos once I learn how.

Another estate gun. 18K174X.
Pretty shiny after 30+ years of carbon and lead were scrubbed off.
A later no-dash variant after the change to blued sights:

Robert Lyn: And you even have the screwdriver! How is that possible! I've always believed that if a 'ghost ship' were to dock at some US port, loaded with many 1000s of NIB S&W revolvers from the 70s/80s, that the screwdriver would be missing from each box!
Just Joking: Throw away the gun, keep the screwdriver!
Not Joking: I envy you your wonderful gun. Enjoy it.

Thank you all for your time and responses. Parker357, your Mod 67, with the exception of the grips is the mirror image of the one in the estate.

It may be a required acquisition!
