Hi gang, I hunt and have rifles and shotguns, but I also have a S&W .357 Magnum 681 that my father had owned. How do I find out the year it was made? Top part is stamped MOD 681 and lower says (it's either an O or a G) G18 and stamped under it is ###X# (three numbers, an X, another number). Any input would be great, thanks!!! TB

Outside of the model number those others are just assembly numbers. As sodacan said the serial on the bottom of the butt will tell. Great revolvers.

Serial # should be 3 letters and 4 digits on the butt as mentioned above. Photos always help but I’m not good at posting them myself.

I got my 681 from the CAI imports that went to the sportsman’s warehouse’s a couple years ago and was a cosmetic wreck. A good cleaning and polishing along with a spring kit and it might be my most accurate revolver I own. It shoots clover leafs at 25 yards. It would take an obscene amount of money to get it away from me.
