I just sold my 357 lever action.I have about 300 rounds of handloads to shoot.I have a model 681 and was wondering if I could safely use those loads in it.They are loaded with 14.9gr of 2400 with a 158gr JSP.I shoot a cylinder full yesterday and man does it recoil.Shoots a 2 foot flame.That load comes from my reloading manual so it is an accepted 357 load.That load was extremely mild in the rifle.Is it to hot for the L frame?I don't want to damage my 681 so should I just start pulling heads and reload down.

Do a quick google on that and you'll find that 14.9 is either maximum or slightly over the maximum load with a 158-grain bullet.

The Alliant reloading guide (on their web site) lists 14.8 as the max load with the Speer 158 grain bullet. How did the load shoot? Any extraction problems? If it were me, I'd probably shot them in my L frame insofar as I already have them made up IF that first cylinder-full seemed OK. But then I wouldn't have sold the rifle! For what its worth, I've recently settled in on 14 grains under either a lead or jacketed 158 grain bullet as my favorite .357 load.
